About Ready Player Golf

Ready Player Golf began during COVID as a way to bring people together and use XR for good. Our first event was held on September 25–26, 2020, benefiting Doctors Without Borders. What began as a single event soon became a tradition.

The following year, ENGAGE sponsored the event and gave us our own VR world—the Ready Player Golf Clubhouse—and XRSI became our beneficiary.

Originally conceived by Richard Ward, who recruited Sophia Moshasha, Ben Erwin, and Chris Madsen from ENGAGE, Ready Player Golf quickly proved that the community had staying power. Over the years, what began as the world's first Virtual Reality Charity Golf Fundraiser has grown into a thriving community united by immersive technology, friendship, and a desire to make a difference.

In 2022, we began supporting the work of James Orrigo, whose program for the Children's Cancer Research Fund brought VR experiences to terminally ill children. In 2026, James and Kirstin Orrigo founded their own charity, Bridging Rooms, to continue this work, and Ready Player Golf continues to support their mission through our annual event.

Ready Player Golf takes place over two days.

On Day One, we meet in VR to share a community moment, connect, and network. From there, we travel through virtual portals to Walkabout Mini Golf by Mighty Coconut, where the matches begin.

The next day, we return to the Ready Player Golf Clubhouse for a special experience, followed by an acknowledgment ceremony. We thank our donors and sponsors, recognize the best plays and memorable moments from the previous day's competition, and then present our beneficiary with a virtual big check.
